Spirulina-
Fresh Water Algae
The
term Spirulina includes various
species of primitive unicellular blue-green algae, most commonly Spirulina maxima and Spirulina platensis. Spirulina Farm cultivating one of
nature''s marvellous weeds, a fresh water algae. Spirulina is a naturally palatable food that aids in protecting the
immune system, in cholesterol reduction, and in mineral absorption. Spirulina supplies nutrients that are
lacking in most of our diets. Spirulina
is a great source of nourishment. It enables children and adults who don''t get
the proper amount of vegetables to get their greens in tablet form or in a
delicious Smoothie.
Spirulina also has all nine of the fundamental amino
acids, as well as nine more nonessential ones. Spirulina platensis extracts have been demonstrated to enhance
macrophage function in cats and to enhance humoral and cell-mediated immune
functions in chickens. By taking Spirulina,
people are able to maintain consistent energy levels. In addition, because Spirulina is so high in protein,
minerals and essential fatty acids, it is a healthy energy food that is
especially useful for people on low-calorie diets. Spirulina protein supplement in diets for half-starved children

digestive absorption of the protein in Spirulina
and Chlorella is four times greater
than that in beef. Spirulina is one
of those food supplements which most of us should take but rarely do. It''s a
natural, multivitamin product which provides a wider spectrum of micronutrients
than available from many other sources.
Spirulina also contains a novel polysaccharide called
Calcium Spirulina (Ca-SP) that may have antiviral and anti-thrombic (clot
busting) activity. Due to the fact that it is a rich source of antioxidants and
other nutrients, Spirulina may have modest cancer-fighting activities as well. Spirulina is often advocated as a safe
source of the micronutrient vitamin B-12, studies have shown that the B-12
contained in Spirulina is not readily
absorbed. Therefore, Spirulina should
not be taken for the explicit purpose of combating B-12 deficiency. As always,
one should always consult a physician before taking any supplement, especially
for pregnant/lactating women or anyone who has a medical condition (such as
cancer - a common target for Spirulina
marketers).
