MARINE FOULING - IMPACTS OVER CAPTURE FISHERIES

The settlement and growth of plants and animal on man-made structures in the sea is known as marine Fouling. Bio-fouling or biological fouling mainly in two types, Soft surfaces, eg: sand, mud etc. and Hard surfaces, eg: rocks, wood etc. During early setting stages, organisms compete with each other for setting space and owing to the scarcity of adequate natural surfaces; artificial surfaces become important settlement option for marine organisms. Fouling refers to the accumulation and deposition of living organisms (bio-fouling) and certain non-living material on hard surfaces, most often in an aquatic environment. This can be fouling of ships, plings, and natural surfaces in the marine environment (marine fouling), fouling of heat-transferring components through ingredients contained in the cooling water or gasses and even the development of plaque on teeth or deposists on solar panels on mars, among other examples.
